“Araguaia” is a river system in Brazil and it is under this name that the plant has become known. Hygrophila sp. Araguaia, in moderate condtitions, has compact, tight-sitting leaves and grows branches easily. The plant is reddish brown to purple in colour with the much brighter central vein that forms a striking accent. Flowers are light-violet and quite beautiful. Unlike other Hygrophila species Araguaia is a slow grower with a creeping habit and it is an ideal foreground or mid-ground plant. In nano aquarium ‘Araguaia’ form an impressive contrast with plants of a bright green or red color.
